Steff Handley's World of Murals

A crèche in Stevenage

Steff was commissioned to create, on a voluntary basis,  a crèche for a community organisation in Stevenage.

The room was already painted a bright yellow colour, so armed with cans of brightly coloured gloss and acrylic paints, Steff and her group of volunteer/helpers set to work to transform the room into a cheerful environment for pre-school children.

The project grew and grew.

Once the mural was completed, the other walls looked very bare, so the team moved around the room until all the walls were full.

Sam added his Disney Winnie The Pooh characters to brighten up the walls opposite the mural.

A children's toilet was built and Steff quickly transformed this, with her helpers, to become a Punch and Judy Show.

Once that was complete, the 'inside the loo' project began. Steff drew underwater creatures and the staff/clients and children helped to paint them in.

A portrait of Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and her trusty friends was added to the back of the door.

Clowns were added to the remaining walls and volunteers from Barclays Bank, via 'Groundwork' were recruited to come and paint them in.

The result, as you can see, is a beautiful and unique crèche for the children to play in.

Steff's inspiration for this project came from a variety of sources and all her drawings are freehand.

Steff is available for commissions and prices are available on request.
