Steff Handley's World of Murals

Bedwell Primary School

More recently, in February 2003, Steff's talent had been noticed by the Neighbourhood Warden Scheme in Stevenage and she was asked to participate in a paid commission to work with Year 5 at Bedwell School on a Community Mural.

The children submitted their artwork to Steff on Friday, the theme was music, and by Monday morning their drawings were on the wall in Bedwell by the chip shop!

Steff took each picture and highlighted one aspect of it, enlarged it and reproduced it onto the wall. The children arrived and armed with tins of bright matt emulsion, painted in the pictures.

Once finished, the council 'skinned' the work, to protect and prolong and to keep it safe from vandalism.

The result is here to see. This is a mural by the children for the children and they are very proud of their work. The Mayor and The Lady Mayoress came along on the first day of work to see how the children were progressing.

Each child received a certificate of merit for their artwork presented to them during assembly at Bedwell School by the Mayor and Steff.
